Are You An Investor?

Definition of Investor:  To commit money in order to earn a financial return; to make use of something for future benefits or advantages.

We usually think of the term “investor” in relation to a business start-up.  I would like to suggest that we can be investors every day….whatever our work might be.

There are many ways to invest in our personal success.

Have you read a book lately related to your work?  You invested time and money in this effort.

Have you attended a training seminar?  It may have required time away from work today for future benefit tomorrow….that could be a great investment of time.

Have you learned a new skill?  Assuming that what you knew yesterday is satisfactory for future success is a big mistake!  Making use of opportunities to learn new skills is definitely a good investment.

Have you invested in meeting new contacts?  Networking is the new buzzword in business.  It is an investment of time and money to join a serious networking group. In the Nashville area, I highly recommend the Business Referral Network (BRN). General information can be found at and information about my group can be found at

Have you invested in your health?  I seriously admire those who go to the gym every day and avoid junk food.  No one said it was easy, but it is a good investment!

Have you invested in your appearance?  For some, that could mean a diet.  For others it could mean an investment in a new wardrobe, or new shoes, or a haircut.

An investment can run the gamut, from simple to significant, just as in business.

The good news is that everyone can be an investor!  What do you choose to invest in today?
